Our area has been in the news before as a great place for seniors. In fact, CNN Money ranked neighbor city Durham as #1 in the 25 best places to retire.
With easy access to all areas of the South East US, this area of North Carolina is a perfect home base for an RV enthusiast. The Blue Ridge Mountains are just a few hours away and the beach is only a couple hours away.
Locally there are many golf courses and recreational activities. Durham and Raleigh both have an excellent performing arts scene and the entire region is great for dining out. Our area also boast some of the best Museums in the SE.
Housing prices are relatively low compared to much of the country and the weather is fairly mild. Not as cold as the NE in the winter and not as hot as Florida in the summer. In fact, many people who retire to Florida from the NE end up moving to NC. They are affectionately known by some as "half backs" because they moved half way back.
NC income taxes can be higher than other states depending on the type of income you receive, so check with a local CPA first. Property taxes are fairly low and the cost of living is low, so it may average out depending on your circumstances.
